The smoky taste of grilled steaks and meat on the grill is an American favorite. The special grilled taste is enough to make any meal special, but barbecue sauce can add a whole new taste, such as mesquite, hickory, smoked, or sweet and tangy. While most will buy a BBQ sauce for sale in stores, others make amazing sauces from secret home recipes that leave visitors excited for more.

Bottling up recipes and launching products is now easier than ever before. Many states allow individuals to make food products, so long as regulations for producing and distributing food are met. This is not as complicated as many may think. Many events such as fairs, festivals, cook-offs, and competitions allow for marketing foods and sauces.

To start, request information from the state on what licenses, regulations and restriction for making and selling food products. A business license is generally required for all food products. Other requirements may exist for selling products out of state or over the Internet. Those launching this type of business should expect that product will be made at a separate location than home facilities. All ingredients are also normally stored at a separate location than home.

While a separate facility may be required, renting one is certainly possible for a low cost if renting temporary space through an organization, such as a church. It's also possible to trade services. This will reduce costs, and individuals won't need to pay rental costs for an entire month.

Later, after profits have occurred it will be easier to make these investments. This will also give time to secure small business or bank loans to cover these costs. Until then renting facilities is a good option.

Think about low cost bottling and labeling, and investigate suppliers. Also adhere to any state regulations or restrictions in making product. Once the product has been made think about how it will be marketed.

Initially it will mean ways to get the product into consumer hands. This might be attending fairs and festivals, demonstration booths, flea markets, and even entering contests. Stands that offer consumers the ability to taste test the product and for business owners to explain why their product is better than the rest is always a great selling point. With any marketing plan the goal is to increase sales, and build as many customers as possible.

To get product onto store shelves the product will need a representative, of individuals will need to market it to regional purchase managers. This may mean a trip out of state to speak with those in charge of buying products for their stores. They won't instantly fall in love with the product when they have ten others already on store shelves. Make sure to treat it like a business meeting by taking sales data, and other aspects about this brand of sauce that will make them want to push aside BBQ sauce for sale they already carry for one they don't.
