Everyone likes dessert of some kind. For many people it is chocolate all the way. Others prefer fruit based treats. Then there are those who like cream based stuff. Whatever you like, there is probably a way to turn to low fat dessert recipes to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Indulging is not always the best way to get low fat, low calorie, food that is low in sugar too. For this reason, many eaters decide to skip it altogether, either because they have to for a health reason or they are trying to lose weight or get healthier.

For people are who are carefully watching their weight or taking steps to lose weight, it can be as simple as making substitutions. Lower fat options are always available if you look in the right place and make a choice to act on it. This could be replacing certain ingredients or simply mixing up your own healthier concoctions.

One common dessert choice is cheesecake. Folks love it because it can be tailored to meet your culinary tastes. In fact, there are so many ways to prepare cheesecake, that some places have been created just to serve it. Ideas include, turtle, chocolate, fruit and NY style.

Alas, it is not always a low calorie choice. But you can make it at home and make it less fatty. One way is to replace some of the ingredients with lighter ones. This could mean using Neufchatel instead of regular cream cheese, 2% milk instead of whole milk and light sour cream instead of traditional. Ricotta cheese is another interesting substitution.

Making these kinds of substitutions is the best way to cut out some grams of fat. The creams and cheeses can be replaced with lighter versions in other foods too, not just a cheesecake. In addition to 2% milk, skim milk is often acceptable in recipes and will still provide a nice flavor. Another fat cutting area is the crust. Many treats are baked into crusts that are not exactly low cal. Yours could be made of graham crackers and be rolled thinner to make it lighter. Add some cocoa to make a graham chocolaty treat.

A few low fat dessert recipes is a good way to treat yourself. There really is no reason why they should not be enjoyed from time to time, or even every day. It's wise to make smarter choices on what you eat, and to limit the portion size. A little really can keep the sweet tooth at bay.
